Lower Limb
Lower limb injuries are extensive and as with all the areas covered what follows is by no means an exhaustive list.
Common injuries include muscle tears and sprains. These are generally to the groin, hamstrings, quadriceps or calf muscles.
Knee
Problems at the knee include ligament injuries, cartilage injuries, knee pain including patellofemoral pain, and osteoarthritis. Diagnosing the cause of the problem is important ensuring that rehabilitation not only addresses the injury but also the cause by identifying any possible weaknesses or muscle imbalances.
Ankle
Ankle pain from a ‘sprained ankle’ can result in ligament injury as well as other surrounding structures. Ankle instability can lead to recurrent ankle sprains and a thorough rehabilitation program is needed to help prevent this recurrence.
You don’t have weak ankles you have stupid ankles!
Other problems around the ankle include Achilles problem as well as referred pain. These problems may be a result of a traumatic sudden onset or may have a more gradual onset.
Foot pain may be due to plantar fasciitis, often known as heel spurs.
